News from the President...

Wow! It’s a new year and a new semester and PTA has hit the ground running! We have a lot happening in the next few months, so grab your calendars and keep reading.

Our first PTA meeting of 2010 will be Tuesday, February 16th, followed immediately by Reagan’s annual College Night (see The Counselor’s Corner for details). Our meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria. At that meeting, we will be electing a Nominating Committee (5 members and 1 alternate) that will be responsible for nominating a slate of officers to serve for the 2010-2011 school year. The Committee will present the slate of officers for approval by the general membership at the April 6th regular meeting. If you are a current PTA member and would like to be involved in determining the future leadership of the Reagan PTA, we encourage you to nominate yourself for the committee or have someone nominate you at the meeting. For more information about serving on the Nominating Committee, feel free to contact last year’s chairman, Mandy Kaupert, at mkaupert1@gmail.com.

If you have a senior, or know a senior, you know that the graduation countdown has begun! PTA is gearing up for graduation also. Project Graduation, that is! Project Graduation, is our drug-and-alcohol-free post-graduation party. Whether you have a senior or a freshman, please look further in our newsletter for all the fundraising and volunteer opportunities we have available to make this year’s Project Graduation the best ever!

If you have a senior, you also know this is the time to start thinking about college scholarships. Reagan PTA will award 10, $500 scholarships to seniors that are members of PTA. Look for more information in our newsletter or contact your student’s counselor. If your senior plans to study education in college, they may also apply for the Blossom Scholarship awarded by the North East Council PTA to one senior from every Northeast high school. Watch for more information about the Blossom Scholarship in our next newsletter.

If you have a senior, you may not know that there are a variety of senior activities throughout the Spring. Whether they are sponsored by the school, the Senior Class or PTA, most activities will need parent volunteers. Watch our newsletters and emails for requests for volunteers. An ice cream social, movies and bowling, the senior barbeque, and Project Graduation are just a few. These senior activities are a great opportunity to “hang out” with your seniors and their friends. If you haven’t completed a PIE Volunteer form, they are available in the front office.

Whether you have a senior or underclassmen, I hope you will continue to read our newsletters and emails, visit our website and attend our meetings to stay informed and get involved! On behalf of the PTA, I would like to thank all the parents and members of the community who are involved and support our projects with their time and resources.

Best Wishes for 2010!

Go Rattlers!

Beth Cholerton, RRHS PTA President
