From the President...
I hope everyone had a wonderful spring break. I sometimes think I need a vacation from my vacation! Now it is time to finish out the rest of the school year. By the time you read this prom has passed and graduation is right around the corner.
There is a lot continuing to happen in and around our campus, including the expanding and reconfiguration of the main entrance into Reagan. The student census projected for Reagan and Johnson from the March 7th deadline are 2,300 for Reagan and 1,500 for Johnson. The toll roads north of Loop 1604 seem to be a go and area athletic venues will be expanding and/or constructed. It was a very interesting and well attended meeting. In addition to the speakers, we gave out 10 PTA scholarship to outstanding students (see article and photo on page 6 of the April Newsletter). All the students that applied were deserving – I wish we had more money to give them all a scholarship. Every one of them should be proud of their accomplishments. I see many bright futures ahead for the students at Reagan. I also want to thank Pat Acquisto for chairing the PTA scholarship committee. She spent many hours making sure the process was fair and equal for all the applicants.
Spring is the time for celebrations such as Prom and Graduation. Unfortunately these celebrations can bring opportunities for alcohol and drug use. Parents, please review the TABC web site for information on penalties for serving minors: www.tabc.state.tx.us or click on the link below. Project Graduation, a drug and alcohol free celebration, will be held at Time Warner Sports Park (previously called Ancira Sports Park) immediately after graduation on June 7th from 11:30 p.m. till 4:00 a.m. The students will enjoy a night full of fun with volleyball contest, buddy ski races, Frisbee toss contest, tricycle races, karaoke contest, our own version of “Survivor”, shoe kick-a-thon and softball to name a few games. Casino Night will be enjoyed by all throughout the night. Each game will have prizes, trophies and gift card awards. Students will enjoy lots of food including Mexican food, ice cream and a yummy breakfast. Please contact Tina Frick or Jan Johnson if you would like to volunteer or make a donation. Let’s all work together to keep our students safe. If I can be of any help to you just call me or send me an email.
