News from the President...

What an exciting time of the year! As the 2008-2009 school year draws to a close, we look back on all that has been accomplished and look forward to new opportunities next year. Congratulations to the class of 2009! Our thoughts and best wishes for a wonderful future go with you, and we thank you for the impact that you have had on Ronald Reagan High School.

As the school year comes to an end we want to remind everyone to celebrate responsibly. Please encourage senior students to attend Project Graduation, an all night drug-and alcohol- free party held immediately following graduation at Dave & Busters. Graduation is June 8 at the Freeman Coliseum. Thanks to all the members of the committee who have been working very hard to make this night unforgettable for our seniors. As our seniors graduate and move on, the PTA loses some wonderful parents. There are 20 senior moms on the current PTA board. Most of them are returning, but some have their last child at Reagan. I would like to thank the following senior parents who will be leaving Reagan and whom I have had the pleasure to work with: Sunny Brown, Lisa Oliver, DeAnna Burton, Wanda Lennox, Lisa Clingman, Eileen Brzozowski, Beth Plummer, and Deb Freno. You will be missed. Many of you I have worked with since elementary school. I heard a saying on the television this past weekend that struck a chord in me. It was, “There is nothing stronger than the heart of a volunteer.” I believe this to be true. I have seen this over and over in my years of volunteering. Within the schools, when you get a group of parents together almost anything can be accomplished. From classroom parties, bike rodeos, decorating stages, chaperoning trips, fundraising for a multitude of things (building playgrounds, school improvements, and the mud pit project), a determined parent can overcome most obstacles. This was proven again by an email I got this morning. A Churchill mom has been fighting the current ranking system for our seniors. A fight in which she lost, but still one she and others believe in. She has now decided to run for State Representative to battle the top 10% rule. All of this proves that when something touches your heart – things get done.

Since this is the last newsletter for the 2009 school year and my final article, I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to some very special people. First, I have to thank my wonderful officers: Sunny Brown, Lynne Connolly, Lisa Oliver, Beth Cholerton, Mandy Kaupert and DeAnna Burton. These ladies are the most dedicated, hard working and fun loving group around. I truly could not have done it without them! Next, we have a fantastic PTA Executive Board that works very hard to carry out all the PTA projects and programs. I appreciate each one of you. Then, a huge thank you goes to Mr. Boyd, the AP staff, and the lovely ladies in the front office. You are all great to work with, and we appreciate all you do for our students, parents, teachers and staff. I can’t leave out the Librarians, Counselors, Copy Room, Nurses, Attendance Office, Custodians, Cafeteria, etc., etc., etc.! Reagan is a great place to be! I have truly enjoyed my tenure as president and thank you all from the bottom of my heart! Go Rattlers!
