REAGAN'S VALERO YOUNG SCIENTISTS!
Some of our Reagan students were accepted to the Valero Young Scientist 2026 summer program, an elite research program at Texas Biomedical Research Institute, funded by Valero Energy. This program is an immersive, multidisciplinary program for San Antonio area high school students entering their junior or senior year of high school. During this four-week summer program, students investigated infectious disease research through hands-on labs that are similar to those conducted by Texas Biomed infectious disease researchers while maintaining a professional-level lab notebook which they can reference throughout their academic years. These students also conducted inquiry-based projects exploring other research areas such as environmental science and genetics.
Through opportunities to engage with Texas Biomed scientists and a variety of STEM professionals, students explored different career pathways and presented a collaborative research project on a topic discovered during the program. Our students also participated in Prepping for Your Future sessions with activities to develop soft skills such as networking, communication, and presentation skills. These selected students built lasting relationships with their peers as well as Texas Biomed scientists and staff. We are very proud of these Rattlers as they have engaged in an experience that is sure to open many doors for them in the future.

A shout out to our JROTC cadets and directors, LtCol. Livingston and MSgt. Tijerina for going beyond these past few weeks in helping out our PTA. Our PTA President, Shelley Hull, sent a note commending the cadets for their help commenting, "...we were breaking things down in the sweltering heat/sun, when a group of cadets walking by asked if they could help...and, indeed they did! It was so wonderful and appreciated! Please give them props and let them know they really made a difference today!"
The REAGAN WAY!
